Sony BMG Nashville Dominates CMA Awards, As Artists Sweep 9 of 11 Key Categories
Kenny Chesney Captures Entertainer of the Year, as Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley Take Home Two Awards Each Show Hosts Brooks & Dunn Become Most–Awarded Act in CMA History as ABC Broadcast Features Nine Performances from Sony BMG Nashville Artists
Nashville, TN – Sony BMG Nashville was the toast of Music City following Monday's 40th Annual CMA Awards, which not only featured Arista Nashville's Brooks & Dunn as hosts of the three–hour, primetime, ABC special, but also spotlight performances from nine Sony BMG Nashville artists – a powerful showcase matched only by a sweeping nine award wins across the 11 key artist categories, with BNA superstar Kenny Chesney claiming the night's top prize, Entertainer of the Year.
Back–to–back performances from Brooks & Dunn, Carrie Underwood, and Brad Paisley opened the show, and those artists ultimately claimed the lion's share of the evening's awards. Brooks & Dunn, after becoming the most–awarded act in Academy of Country Music history earlier this year, have now repeated that accomplishment with more wins than anyone in CMA history. Capturing awards for Vocal Duo, as well as Single and Music Video (both for their soul–piercing single, "Believe") advanced the 30–million–selling duo's career CMA tally to 19. Ronnie Dunn, who co–wrote "Believe," earned an additional CMA for Song of the Year, technically bringing his career total to 20 CMAs.
Quadruple–Platinum sensation Carrie Underwood looked every bit the star, performing her current, two–week #1 smash, "Before He Cheats." A wonderful night for Carrie included a potent double–win, taking home not only the CMA's prestigious Horizon Award (for greatest career progress over the past year), but also earning a remarkable show of acceptance from the country music industry, which honored her as Female Vocalist of the Year – a true sign of appreciation and respect for a young artist and first–time category nominee.
As the most–nominated solo artist this year, acclaimed music–maker Brad Paisley brought his signature style to the broadcast, performing his newest hit, "She's Everything," from the Platinum–certified Time Well Wasted, which earned Album of the Year and garnered Musical Event honors for its #1 single, "When I Get Where I'm Going," featuring Dolly Parton.
The evening of hits and new music also included performances from Entertainer of the Year winner Kenny Chesney, superstar Alan Jackson, chart–topping RCA Nashville beauty Sara Evans, and debuts of new singles from Martina McBride ("Anyway"), Gold–selling Columbia Nashville firebrand Miranda Lambert ("Crazy Ex–Girlfriend"), and multi–Platinum phenom Gretchen Wilson, who unveiled "Come to Bed."
With so many awards and accolades, the Sony BMG Nashville family had abundant reasons to celebrate, as the label group welcomed artists, VIPs, and guests to an exclusive post–awards soiree at Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame.
